.::Steve Fox (Tekken)::.
Last updated 10th May, 2007
Like many people I was a little disappointed by Tekken4. The game play wasn't as solid as it usually is and the responsiveness of the game itself had me yearning for more. The new characters weren't that great either but there was only one thing that had me shoving in one coin after the other into the Tekken4 arcade machine: Steve Fox. Innovative and unorthodox in many ways, Steve Fox is hands down the coolest male boxing design ever. Namco already needed a good boxer to bring the feel of a "martial arts" tournament to it and Steve does justice to not only to the game but to boxing itself. His innovative bits make him interesting and user friendly and even by Tekken5, Steve is a fucking UNSTOPPABLE MACHINE if in the hands of an expert player. His design is amazing and he's got a great dress sense too. His strenght lies in his power, his speed, his great combination, his unorthodox boxing techniques and his evasive tactics. His drawback, like all other boxers, is the fact that he doesn't kick and though his evasive tactics are brilliant to take on middle-upper level attacks, he is likely to suffer against lower attacks since boxers aren't trained to deal with them. There is not a single thing wrong with him when it comes to his design as he is a great design, innovative and seems to have inspired Shen Woo from KoF2003 onwards. A welcome addition to the incredible roaster of Tekken series. "Hey, you wanna try me guv?"
Story: a middleweight boxing champ, Steve was an undefeated boxer. He reigned supreme…however he never knew his parents nor did he know the origin of that scar on his left arm…all he knew was that he was an orphan and he was now a Boxing champ. One-day members of Mafia come up to him and order him to lose his next fight. Refusing and then pounding the crap out of his opponent, Mafia places prize money on his head. Forfeiting his title and escaping to US he lives the life of ‘a nobody’. Still consumed with thoughts of who his parents are and the scar on his arm…and certain by now that he cannot escape the Mafia, Steve decides to enter the Tekken 4 tournament to test his skill and seize his running away and not die like a nobody…and if possible…to find his parents.
However an assassin known as Nina Williams comes to assassinate him into the tournament. He doesn’t win the tournament and loses to Paul Phoenix (pretty obvious since in Tekken 5 they show him fighting Paul in the Tekken 4 tournament. Now Paul was eliminated by Kuma so if he and Steve fought then Steve must have lost). After the tournament he goes on to research more on Nina and finds out that SHE is his mother (?!!!). Later some of the Mafia guys come and disguised ask Steve to come with them to some place. According to their plan, Nina would snipe him from a nearby building.
However, Nina herself had done her share of research and had also discovered that Steve was her son. After a few seconds of hesitation Nina decides NOT to kill Steve and shoots the other people instead. Lei would eventually come and try to arrest her only for Nina to run with Lei (and Steve) running after her.
Eventually Steve would catch up with her but Lei would ruin this mother-son reunion by saying "FLEEZE" (bwahahaha). Steve saves Nina from the shot and allows her to escape.
Lei then helps Steve find more about the Mishima Zaibatsu and the whole biological insertion crap that he was part of. Steve finds out that he was actually something like a test tube baby, and his father is unknown right know (most people say its Lee Chaolan). T5 comes and Steve enters to kick some ass and get back at the Zaibatsu. He loses though and I think he loses to Hwoarang (as they obviously supposed to be facing each other judging from the intro). Nonetheless he finds out where the lab he was looking for is and destroys it. After that he goes to see a boxing bout but Marduk comes and ruins it by attacking and defeating both the fighters. Steve decides to challenge him...and I hope he kicks his ass cuz that big, bad stupid looking ape is starting to get annoying like hell.
Famous rivalries: Nina Williams, Hwoarang and Marduk
Overall Ratings: 10/10
Dream bouts:
Steve VS Kyo: this fight will be great to watch as these two have some of the best punchers I’ve seen in fighting games. Amazing stuff. Kyo and Steve both have power, speed and finacé in their punches. However, Kyo has fast DM’s while Steve doesn’t. That is where this will be trouble for Steve. I see Kyo take him out with a quick 182-style DM. Kyo wins by KO.
Steve VS Vanessa: this one will be great to watch. They both are boxers, both are puncher-boxer, both have fast and powerful punches and both have nice punch combinations (though Steve’s are way cooler). Vanessa problem is that she gets cocky in a fight and that’s where it can be trouble for her. Steve’s normal problem is facing someone who kicks but Vanessa here doesn’t. Plus he has cooler evasive moves making and a good chin. I see Steve knock her out with his combinations. Steve wins by KO.
Steve VS Ken: this one will be good but the same problem as with Ryu comes into play. Plus Ken has many good close range DM’s. I see Ken dodge Steve’s punches and finish him off with a shin-ryu-ken DM. Ken wins by KO.
Steve VS Cody: don't ask me why, but this is one fight i always thought about. Steve's flashy, powerful and wicked combinations against Cody's street hardened brawling style. Damn. Brawler versus boxer is always so kick ass to imagine. Anyway I see Cody put away Steve with his criminal-upper. Cody wins by KO.
Steve VS Yugo: the British boxer is very powerful and fast but not faster and stronger than Yugo. He has more finacé that Yugo but Yugo also kicks so here it will trouble Steve. In the end I see Yugo take this one. Yugo wins by KO.
